A team from MIT won the contest . The idea could be used to build a city on earth or under the ocean. My question is the protective dome in the habitat may not be tall enough to house the trees when fully grown. The astronauts may have to crop the tree tops to keep them indoors.
Also, this idea may have to be adjusted to include the role of AI robots to build the city from materials in nearby asteroids. This idea could very well start a new industry here on earth to build cities on Mars.
