Certainly there are many that are similar in that they use mantras

and pujas, etc.  But with the exception of methods such as those

taught by Chopra, Shri Shri, and others who were students of MMY, I

have never come across a teaching that had the whole "effortless,

simple" aspect of TM.

Have you?

If so, I'd love to know about them...could you tell us which ones

they are?

Thanks.

I'd like to hear about them too. I remember Maharishi saying in more

expansive moments that a technique that operates effortlessly through

any sense and transcends it's own activity, is essentially

trancendental meditation. This, of course was before the near

effortless activity of lawyers...

A very detailed science of mantra and it's usage--as in "manasika japa"--mental use of mantra--goes back to the remotest antiquity. Pre-Vedic. In fact the basis for mantra usage a la TM (and numerous other methods) are all pre-Vedic, tantric methods, some of which were appropriated by Vedic systems. And they have a system starting from the simple manasika-japa/TM methods, to more profound methods. But it is a science, it does possess a vast literature and it can be studied. The only thing is the entire educational system of the TM movement has by and large hidden that science away. If it was out in the open, it would be immediately clear, this ain't "Vedic" people.
