I don't get it. How much more kinetic energy does a car size asteroid pack than say a conventional bomb, such that a car size meteor could create huge tidal waves etc. Even nuclear tests or bombs, although said to disrupt the earth in more subtle ways, do not appear to cause widespread geographic destruction.
