In regards to DDT and it's ban, it has been
successful and worth while. Several birds of prey, namely Peregrine
falcons and Bald Eagles were nearing extinction due to DDT being in the food
chain. It had devastating effects on their reproductive systems and by
1970 it wasn't sure as to whether they could be saved, But the ban on it's
wide spread use cleaned up the environment and these particular species
have made remarkable come backs, to the point of being taken off of the
endangered species list. The fact that these species have had an amazing
recovery means that DDT is less likely to be further along in the food chain,
protecting other species, including our own.
