A book has come out recently on DMT as the "God molecule" (this chemical or those similar to it occur naturally in the brain); thus, various researchers have been led down the slippery slope of illogic into believing that the visions of religious figures somehow are a direct result of some (drug?) or unknown stimulation of the DMT mechanism. While this may be true in traditional shamanism, we should not jump to conclusions regarding TM. To befuddle the minds of readers even more profoundly, writers on the subject of hallucinogenic plants often fail to distinguish between having visions and transcending visions. Going back historically, Freud (known to take cocaine for a while); mentioned "oceanic experiences" in which a sense of the individual self seems to be dissolved into an expansion of awareness without limit. In short, popular writers on the topic of visions lump visions, mystical experiences, and "oceanic experiences" together without due diligence in distinguishing the various classes. DMT seems to be well known for inducing visions of various "entities". I took some long ago and had a vision of Kali. Check out the testimonials in the "DMT, Moses, and Transcendence' article. Of course, for serious meditators, this is or should be of intellectual interest only, since repeated ingestion of hallucinagens, particularly in high dosages, may damage the delicate wiring of the brain.
