There's also a barrier spray that can be sprayed on fruit that is made of clay. And, this year, one of the growers at the farmers market told me about a biological based insecticide for foliage-eating pests, called Bull's-Eye, that he used to kill the grasshoppers in his greenhouse. We've had a serious grasshopper problem in our greenhouse for years, and my approach has been to let them get big and slow enough that I can start swatting them dead. I did two sprayings with Bull's-Eye when the grasshoppers had matured quite a bit, but it still took out the vast majority. The bigger ones that survived were thinned out with swatting. Next year, I'll spray when the guys are just babies, and that should wipe them out with a single spraying.
