Good point, it *was* largely untrodden. These kids grew up in the '50s, where everything and everybody were just peachy-keen and rocking the boat was very rare. If they'd wanted models, they'd have had to go back to the '30s. They made it up as they went along. You can't blame the older generations; they desperately needed a breather after the Depression and WWII. But after the kids had been brought up in that quiescent atmosphere, waking up to activism was a major upheaval in and of itself.
