"The Maharishi Effect" is a combination of memoir and literary journalism. It grew out of my experiences in the TM movement back in the 70s, my return to Fairfield a few years ago, and extensive interviews and research. My goal was to introduce a general audience to the world of TM and the movement by telling a story that's compelling and entertaining. It's an important subject and I hope I did it justice. I didn't set out to write a complete history of the movement. When you read the book, you'll undoubtedly think of topics you would have covered that I left out. I know that my book is just the beginning. If it inspires other authors to fire up the word processor and tell other parts of the story, I'll be very pleased. I'm also aware that some readers have strong opinions about the subject matter. Regardless of your perspective on TM and the movement, you may not like what you read in my book. Yes, there's critical stuff in there, and there's also a lot of material that's positive and loving. I tried to portray the movement for what it is-a complex, three-dimensional, utterly human endeavor. Let me know what you think after you've read the book. Thanks!
