Yes, I read it back in the early 70's when it came out.  I believe at 
one time there was going to be a movie made of it too.

Speaking of rakshasas I finally caught up with the old Kolchak episode 
which was on Sci-Fi Thursday where he battles one and then that night 
the "CW" series "Supernatural" guys were battling one.
