Have none of you guys ever been to Chicago?

I used to live in an apartment building on the river
that flows from the lake and down the river, out into the
hinterlands of Illinois. The thing is, it didn't always
flow that way. The river *used* to flow, as all rivers
do, downstream into the big lake at the bottom of the
geographical pit. But at some point the good people of
Chicago decided that the river was carrying too much
effluvia and garbage into the lake, so they just
reversed the motherfucker. It was a remarkable engin-
eering undertaking, and I salute that, but at the
same time they messed with the ecology of an entire
multi-state ecosystem. Who *knows* what the long-term
effects of that were, or will be?
