The test, if that is what it is, may *well* have to do with determining who is willing to forsake the modern sense of what it means to "have a life" and instead spend the rest of your life butt- bouncing on foam in a protected, safe-from-the- outside-world enclave. It seems obvious (at least to me) that the latter is what he's looking for as the nucleus of the movement that will succeed him. Maharishi is no longer looking for or appealing to householders; he's focused on those who want to become recluses, and stay recluses for the rest of their lives. It's not really my cuppa tea, but for some people it may well be *exactly* what they were always looking for -- no responsibilities, no interface to the world that most of the planet considers "real," no worries, no strife. The same "program" every day, always on the same schedule, always at the same time, comforting, more regular than the sun rising, inviolable. If that's what he's looking for to perpetuate his teachings, I have no doubt that he will be able to find them. I just wish he'd been open enough to trust people whose idea of a life was actually having one, in whatever form *they* imagined, not the form that he imagined.
