I'm not trying to be glib here but when I was in Kashmir in '81 for 
a TM course I saw a lot of poor people that appeared to be alot more 
happy than most Americans and Canadians I've met.

India is the only third world country I've been to (I don't think 
Mexico counts) and despite some extreme poverty I saw there, I also 
saw a quality of life that I've never encountered in the West.  
Indeed, I would say I saw more respect for women in India than I 
ever saw here (yeah, yeah, I know all about the dowry burnings).  I 
sum up my India experience this way: in America, men look at women 
from the neck down; in India men look at women from the neck up.
