Actually it's not a "mindset," it's circumstances.

Yes, there are a few who, through either heroic
effort or sheer good luck, make it out of poverty.

But to expect that *all* poor people should be
so lucky or capable of such heroism, and that
they somehow deserve their misery if they aren't,
is, you know, so meanspirited it beggars belief.
