It's not really a problem because it's pretty obvious when he does it...yeah, his little white lies kinda straddle reality but they are, in the final analysis, harmless.
It is fun, though, to call him on it and then watch him dig the hole even more trying to get out of it.
What he should do when he's caught is just smile like this and then we'd all laugh with him:
