I'm using a student version, but neither my son or I are "full time students"
(6 semester
hours) right now, so we don't qualify to purchase the newest version (Maya 8
IIRC).

The Student version of Maya is $250-$400. The commercial version (which comes
with
paper manuals and a license for selling your productions) costs $2000 to $7000.

This is definitely cheaper than the good ole days when it cost $60,000.
