P.S.: Obama is personally strongly pro-life (don't
know about gay marriage). However, he does not
believe in imposing his religious values on others,
particularly not via legislation.

(He doesn't want to "change the Democratic position"
on abortion, BTW, contrary to what the article Shemp
posted claimed. He *does* want to be able to have a
mutually respectful dialogue about abortion, which
neither Democrats nor Republicans tend to be very
good at.)

Actually when I refer to devout Christian, I'm referring to the repentant soul. One who accepts the original teaching of the Church, not the Apostate church. One can not be repentant and believe  either of these activities is OK or should be acceptable. Abortion was a common practice among pagans surrounding the ancient Jews, But Jews rejected the practice. While the Bible never mentions the word abortion specifically it was unthinkable for a Jewish woman to even entertain the thought of abortion as all life was considered sacred and to have children was considered a blessing and to be without children was a curse.  Our laws are based up the Ten Commandments and other Hebraic law. Thou shalt not murder. And clearly Psalm 139:13-14 make clear that God creates you and knows you in the womb. The early church also clearly says in the Didache-The Lord's Teaching Through the Twelve Apostles to the Nations, Chapter 2, Grave Sins Forbidden, "you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is unborn". To support laws that allow the killing of the unborn would be like offering your gold to the person building the golden calf with full knowledge you are doing so. The devout Christian does not pick and choose what he/she wants to and disregard the rest. That is apostasy and forbidden. So an Apostate Christian can call himself devout all he wants, but definitely not devout to the original Word. If Obama can not or will not renounce his party's position on abortion or gay marriage the truly devout will have nothing to do with him, though he may attract the ear of the *pick and choose what you want to believe and practice* Christian who calls himself devout.
