I saw it as part of a now-famous class held at UCLA
called "Ten Tuesdays Down A Rabbit Hole." Basically,
people got tired of hearing Harlan Ellison bitch
about the classes being given on science fiction in
universities and dared him to put his money where
his mouth was and design a course himself. It was
*tremendous*. They originally scheduled it in a room
that would hold 200 and wound up having to have the
class in a hall that held 2000 because it was so
popular. Anyway, that night Harlan read his original
novella of "A Boy And His Dog" and then showed an
advance cut of the film, which had not yet been
released at that time. Then we all got to discuss
it with the author, the director, and the cast. Neat
evening, neat class.
