I was once very attracted to an Indian woman. She liked me her parents liked me, but only as a friend. I guess I took this friendship in a different way. As an American my female friends do not enter my room when I am in my underware unless invited.
To me this woman was a potential ONE.... Well I happen to use tarot cards from time to time. In this time 96 I was living in California. I went to DC upon invitation to pass the New Year with them. I had a very nice time I enjoyed the whole family.
I stayed 10 days or so. Until one night I was sitting with the mother talking and I got out my Tarot cards. We were reading the card together. We came to the subject of her daughter and marriage. Appeared 4 possibilities. we discussed the four. After this I mentioned if I were 10 years younger I would want to marry your daughter. So went the great visit.
SHE WOULD NEVER CONSIDER
Why? Well she would not do that to herself, or to her family. Do what? Marry below her caste. OK......................... I did not know my caste. I kept going with the conversation even though I had said if I were 10 years younger. She explained that her daughter would not choose to be with someone of lower stature.
Well, I asked you think she would be better suited with someone who was of the same caste but treated her like a house servant or even as your husband treats u. You would want your daughter to have your unhappiness?????
I felt like I wanted to vomit the whole visit up. Yet I knew for her it was not personal, but how could that not be personal. I had agreed to bring Saris back to California and try to sell them for her. I should not have done that because by that moment my heart was not in it. I did anyway .
She came to visit late that month and stayed at my apartment. (The Mom) She is a great cook I ate well. Also by this time I respected what she said. She thought that a white guy would even be better.
Later I saw the daughter again. we didn't have a lot of time to spend together but spect sometime. Time alone in a very nice home with beautiful ocean views and sounds of the waves hitting on the rocks. We had a very romantic visit. I DID NOTHING DIS RESPECTFUL TO HER OR HER MOTHER.
I took her to the airport and we were talking so intently that the plane came all the people borded and we did not hear anything. She had to spend the night. she slept in one room I in another neither touched. O HOW I WANTED TO.
The next morning I took her to the airport. This time she made the plane. I called the mother to let her know what had happened. and to make arrangement to get her to her mother.
The mother was very upset. She new in her mind that we had done something?????/ I was pissed. I had let a woman sell the saris to people in syda yoga. The seller sent a check to pay for what she sold. I had sent some money in cash. I spent the check. I lied and said some problem with the bank but there was no problem with the bank. There was a problem with my heart.
I still did not know of what caste I was. I found out (Nigger Caste) What a stupid thing we were all the same color just about.
that changed my whole relationship with India......

I think he said the present state of the caste system is applied with
the same ignorance as all aspects of societies in ignorance. His A of
E will not destroy the caste system, but will magically make it less
oppressive and cruel. (he doesn't provide the details on just how
this would work other then the claim that it will work perfectly)
As a devout Hindu, MMY can no more deny the scripture based caste
system itself than a Catholic can deny the Trinity. It is a core
teaching of Sanatana Dharma. Hindus believe that the caste system is
the way God organized society. It is essential for gaining
liberation. Maybe some people with real Buddhist knowledge can tell
us about Buddha's opposition to the caste system.
Of course I haven't heard everything he has said so you may be right.
