As per MMY's explanation, sorta, Yogic Flying and the other sutras accustom the 
nervous 
system to become used to subtle activity while maintaining a near-smadhi state. 
In the 
case of Yogic Flying, this "subtle activity" happens at all levels, including 
gross physical 
activity.

Maintaining samadhi during activity is called "enlightenment."
