MMY is the one who decreed that the MUM campus be rebuilt. MMY is the one who wanted to tear down the monastary where he lives. MMY is the one who has said he won't deal with anyone who isn't living in vaastu facilities. MMY is the one who has stated that the entire wolrd needs to be rebuilt in accordance with vaastu in order for world peace to be truely stabilized. I don't see that people are misinterpreting/over-reacting much here.
