Actually Buddha insisted no one accept anything at face value and
to question authority: esp. those claiming to be great gurus (I'm
doubting this would exclude todays McMasters and avatards). The
Dalai Lama has also explicitly stated that when things go wrong
with a guru (sexcapades, etc.) you need to let everyone know what
went down, even putting it in newspapers. Their samayas to their
own consciences are intact.
And if the website is correct: they've helped thousands. That's a
good thing. And they were also the front troops of people really
standing up and questioning the authority of the TMO. And they took
the brunt of TB abuse along with the collective egregore of the
rank-and-file believers. It's always been extremely important for
bleeding heart TB's to spread misinformation on these first
dissenters. Hardline TMers hurl themselves on these people like
they were Palestinians with bombs strapped to their bodies.
However our criticism of teachers our own karma brought us to should
also not be exempt from our own love and appreciation of what they
did for us.
