I originally did it just to try it--and back then some UNIX apps were not ported to OS X. Ubuntu I just wanted to try to see what all the fuss was about. I installed it on an iPod because back then, that was the only way to get the Wikipedia on my iPod. Now you can use Automator so that's not necessary.
