As I recall in Maharishi's teaching of enlightenment; 7 stages~
Three (3) steps to full enlighenment.

(There are many enlightened people(CC), but few in stabilized UC- Unity).

The first stage is called CC, and is the transcendence of the ego, and
the experience of the unbounded self, the Atma the soul.

The second stage of enlightenment has to do with the refinement of
perception, so it becomes possible to view the 'finest level of
creation- where creation actually takes place; where manifestation
arises somehow from the silence, to create creation.

Then the final step is one of cognition- that is the cognition or the
'Knowingness', that everything in this creation is part and parcel of you.
In this state of UC, Unity Consciousness, you see through the Maya of
the whole deal...

CC alone, although expanded, can be an alone space- not yet having the
means to see the finest level, the celestial level.

Guru is quite a help, in all these stages-
Whether it's to modulate the Kundalini, which can be over stimulated.

Or whether it's just to give you the 'nod' to say, Hey dude, now ya
got it!!
You in the zone...
