Bush is pulling a nixon actually. recently released white house audio tapes reveal nixon, kissinger and the military agreeing in 1971 that the vietnam war was unwinnable, but kissinger prevailing in his view to postpone any troop pullouts and the resultant "looking weak" until after the 72 elections. bush is just doing exactly the same thing. this time it may not help repubs with the election but will transfer public blame for the inevitable short term mess after pullout to the next administration.
