As I mentioned before, I first heard of Faithless from the local public
radio stations weekly 2 hour "electronica" show. He played "God Is A DJ"
and "Postcards" and I loved them and bought "Sunday 8PM". So I came into
Faithless with "Sunday 8PM" as the first album I had heard.
"Sunday 8PM" was my absolute favorite CD released last year. It is one of
my favorites of all time. It blows me away start to finish, yes it is
pretty somber, mellow, laid back whatever you want to call it. But I really
like that kind of stuff as well, another of my alltime favorite CDS is
George Michael's "Older" and they don't come sadder or more maudlin and
depressing than that CD. Of course I also love the dancier uptempo stuff
like "She's My Baby", "Take the Long Way Home" etc.
But it was "Sunday 8PM" that hooked me on Faithless, then getting to see
them live right after I bought the CD clinched it. It was after the show
and hearing "Insomnia" live for the first time that I went out and bought
"Reverence". It too is a fantastic CD
but after loving "Sunday 8PM" so much I found "Reverence" the weaker of the
2.
Stuff like "Baseball Cap" and "Dirty Ol Man" are just weaker to me than
anything on "Sunday". And "Angeline" is probably my least favorite
Faithless track of all.
But I will agree that "Insomnia" and "Salva Mea" are the best Faithless
epic dance tracks. All-time classics. Of course I love most of "Reverence",
the title cut, "Don't Leave" (I like Goetz's String Mix better than the
album mix), and "Drifting Away" are my other favorites, but here is at
least one person who likes "Sunday 8PM" better as a whole.
Guess it's just a matter of personal taste/preference.
Peace,
MikeA
