Subject: Re: [Fwd: god is a dj]
On Fri 10 Sep, Joost Baaij passed on this question from someone else:
> can anyone tell me were god stands for in god is a dj????
I think the question is the wrong way round, in a strange sort of way.
The DJ is God, rather than God being a DJ. Sort of.
I see the song as a long metaphor about places of worship, and how more
and more people are turning out to raves/clubs/concerts in order to
worship the person on stage (in a faithless way, and the DJ can save
them, salva mea, oh it all fits together it really does, especially
when you have to take the long way home afterwards). Lines like "this is
my church", and the music video which is the live concert, make me think
this is what they're getting at.
I didn't like "God Is A DJ" at first because of the confrontational /
overly controversial concept of it. I was quite happy when Faithless /
Rollo were addressing religion/faith/etc. in a much more subtle,
multiple-meaning way, including "Salva Mea" and "Reverence" plus "Let
This Be A Prayer" etc.
Stuart.
PS. Does anyone here have a list of what each Cheeky CD single has been?
(ie. what was CHEKCD 001, what was CHEKCD 002, etc?). It might sound a
bit retentive but I'd like to know what I'm missing.
