Huff & Herb Biography

Combine the musical styles of Blues and funky House,
fuse them together by whipping up a whirlwind
of ambient sounds set to a rocking beat,
then charge them up with the musical of Huff & Herb -
the result is explosive, it's 'Up On The Blue' and
with a cleverly appropriate title that's just what it is -
uplifting, on it and the Blues like you've never heard before!
Huff & Herb gently eased themselves into the limelight
a few months ago with the highly acclaimed,
beautifully atmosphere 'Feeling Good'
featuring the legendary vocals of Nina Simone.
'Up On The Blue' comes as their follow up single,
and it won't disappoint their already convinced fans.
Huff & Herb have cornered a unique sound by their
two very different musical histories.
Ben Langmaid (alias Huff ) previously made his home
with Rollo at the Cheeky label. Here Ben released
his work under the name Atomic,
working on remixes such as 'Shine' for Space Brothers and
Hyper Go Go's 'High' and his own release 'Drop into Madness'.
Ben also worked in partnership with Rollo as Huff & Puff
producing club hits such as 'Help Me Make It'
which smashed into the National top 40 on skyway last year.
A short time after, Ben introduced Rollo to
long time friends Sister Bliss and Maxi Jazz, playing
an influential role in the formation of 'Faithless' who remain
one of the most successful collaborative dance acts to date.
Alongside his producing career Ben also found time
to hold a residency at the Cafe De Paris 'SEX' nights.
Jeff Patterson (alias Herb) has become a respected figure
within the music industry since his first break in 1986
providing vocals for the band Seventh Heaven.
Jeff's dulcet tones and programming skills have been utilised
by an ever growing list of the finest calibre of artists including;
George Clinton, Junior Morrison, Boy George,
Farlery Jackmaster Funk, George Michael, Eve Gallagher,
UB4O, James Ingram and the Acid Jazz label to name a few.
More recently Jeff can also be recognised for his vocal contribution
on the recent Healy and Amos hit 'Stamp'.
An excitingly diverse package of remixes come from the guys themselves
experimenting with variations of the 'Up On The Blue' theme,
joining the wagon trail on the 'Yojo Club' and 'Yojo Dub' mixes
the track has been uniquely transformed by Yojo Working,
who have proven themselves to be a perfect choice for producing
an additional two excellent remixes.

Recently I've posted a message at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
where I said that Huff & Puff are Rollo & Sister Bliss.
I'd like to take that back now. Sorry.

-

At least it is now confirmed who's Huff and who's Puff.
Reading this brings me to the following:
Rollo is NOT involved in:

Intastella: Skyscraper (Huff & Herb Club Edit / Huff & Herb Club Mix / Huff
& Herb Dub Mix)
Huff & Herb: Feeling Good (Epic Mix / Radio Edit / w/Cut Filly Jam)
Huff & Herb: Up On The Blue (7" Edit / Big Blue Mix)
Space Brothers: Shine (Huff Remix)

-

Huff = Ben Langmaid
Puff = Rollo Armstrong
Herb = Jeff Patterson

But who is Stuff and who is Tuff?
Rollo? Could be. It rhyms on Puff.
Plus: The catalog# of my Huff & Stuff: Sweet Sweet Music is PUFF1
Or PUFF1 is a typo for HUFF1.
I'll leave Stuff and Tuff in doubt.

Stoned Democracy: Close Like An Overdose

2x12": 1993 UK (Champion; CHAMP12.302) [White Label DJ Promo]
A1. Close Like An Overdose (The Development Corporation Mix)
B1. Close Like An Overdose (The Development Corporation Dub)
B2. Close Like An Overdose (Radio Edit)
C1. Close Like An Overdose (Kerri Chandler Mix)
     D1. BLANK

[Note: The Radio Edit isn't an Edit of The Development Corp or Kerri
Chandler.
It is probably the Edit of Rollo's Original Mix.
At least it sounds very Rollo-ish according to Doug.
Thanks to Douglas I've also heard it and yes, it sounds very Rollo-ish.]

Kristine W: One More Try (Our Tribe Mix)

It was included on a Go-Girl compilation (Remix Service for DJ's Only)

Go-Girl Presents "Midnight Sun" (late night house Anthems) one continuous
club mix

Tracks are:
     01. 05:25 EBTG: Missing
     02. 05:10 Daphne: Change
     03. 08:43 M People: Open Your Heart (BIR Mix)
     04. 07:00 Livin' Joy: Dreamer (Rollo's Big Mix)
     05. 06:17 Bette Midler: To Deserve You
     06. 05:19 Liquid: One Love Family
     07. 05:02 Ellie Mac: So In Love
     08. 07:35 Kristine W: One More Try (Our Tribe Cracklin' Mix)
     09. ??:?? Michael Jackson: Earth Song (Hani's Mix)
     10. ??:?? S. McLachlan: Possesion (RITM Mix)
     11. 10:16 Peter Gabriel & Deep Forest: While The Earth Sleeps

I think they called it the Our Tribe Cracklin' Mix
due to all the pops and clicks you hear from the old vinyl they must have
used.
I'm not 100% sure they didn't mess with the mix, like add drums or something
extra.
It sounds very Our Tribe to me and I don't think they messed with the mix
much if they did.
On the inside of the cover it states it uses the Our Tribe Mix for this
Remix.

Fine Young Cannibals: I'm Not The Man I Used To Be

Recently I found notes of Fine Young Cannibals: I'm Not The Man I Used To Be
12",
which indicated that there are, next to the Rollo & Sister Bliss Monster
Mix,
more Rollo & Sister Bliss Mixes of I'm Not The Man I Used To Be.
Is there someone who is able to help us confirm this?

Thanks to Remko:

BBC-CeeFax page 563:

Dido - who's set to get a big hit with "Here with me" -
says she's working with her brother Rollo, from Faithless,
on her new solo material.

There's a real brother-sister love there.
Dido told Radio 1 he's the only one who really understands
what she's trying to do with her music:

"He's a joy to work with and the end result
always seems to be something we're happy with"
