Got my hands on a pre-release promo CD of "Outrospective" yesterday.
Haven't done a proper listening but from sampling it in the car and at home
over the last 24 hours a few observations:
I thought all the talk about this CD was how it was a departure from the
downbeat "Sunday 8PM" and much more upbeat and funky? "Muhammed Ali" may be
the funkiest groove Rollo has ever laid down and "We Come 1" and
"Tarantula" are proper classic Faithless club tracks but this is very
somber, dark and downbeat for the most part. Not that I'm complaining but I
thought this was hyped as a much more upbeat release?
"Tarantula" will be a single at some point, it is screaming for some epic
remixes and I mean Rollo and Bliss mixes, not some of this shit we've been
subjected to with the "We Come 1" mixes, the Wookie? Please! BTW, "We Come
1" is slightly edited on the CD from the version on the promo CD-R I have
plus it segues into the next track and the promo version is clean without
running into the next song.
I like the new female vocalist, Zoe Johnston I believe.Don't have the CD in
front of me to look. But the one track with Dido is heavenly, Rollo is
electronically altering her voice at times to just soar above the music and
it sounds beautiful. I really wish she'd do a full CD of electronic music
in the vein of this or "Take My Hand" her voice sounds great over
electronic music.
CD isn't even an hour long which disappoints but then again longer isn't
always better. Will need a few proper listenings before I can fully judge,
but I love this dark, somber, sad, downbeat stuff anyways so I think I'll
like. Just surprised after all the pre-release talk of a more upbeat
"Funkier" sound that this is the CD.
