I'm a bit surprised, but then it seems that Faithless have crossed over
into that area of music promotion that indie bands usually occupy- where
albums will get nominated for Mercury awards, features will get done in
the "respected" music press, Q will 'accept' them (this happened to
Orbital), and any follow-up album to an album that got good reviews will
be anticipated and attract press attention, no matter how lacklustre it
is.
It's the opposite of the dance music field, where artists seem to have
to prove themselves over again with every single they put out, and it
doesn't matter if a dance artist has a massive #1 hit respected by
everybody, if their follow-up single is rubbish then they're on a
downhill slope and will struggle to get recognised again.
Faithless aren't being treated as a dance music band any more; in fact
some of the most critical reviews of "Outrospective" have come from
dance music magazines.
And of course, the fact that the new album FEATURES DIDO (in big letters
on a sticker on the cover of the CD) makes them more mainstream by
association...
