Thanks all. The filter was enabled in IIS, I just moved it to the web root for troubleshooting purposes but I would rather not leave it there. Also I was mistaken about our IIS version, we are on 6.
I didn't know about the buildlink tag or the friendly url field being deprecated! So if I use buildlink to I just refer to the nav alias and that should take care of it?

This is not necessary. The navnode field is a legacy and will likely be
deprecated in future versions of farcry.

You need to register the ISAPI filter with the IIS server in question.
Do *not* stick these things in the webroot. The filter documentation
should indicate how to do this.
