Hi,

We are seriously considering the use of Farcry to control the front end
requirements of a very heavy usage portal site (+750,000 subscribers).

We'd like to use Farcry to control such features as branding, access
control, rapid site turnaround, internationalisation and accountability.
There's also a significant amount of Coldfusion developers in house making
it a fairly easy transition. A number of business rules will be delivered to
the Farcry CMS system through an MVC layer controlled by Joe Reinhart's
excellent Model-Glue framework; the reason for this is that the business
rules will be a collection of Coldfusion components which instigate stored
procedures, web services calls to an SOA layer and direct instantiation of
java objects (data with GUI widgets delivered from our ERP system)

We have conducted extensive tests with Farcry 3.0.2 using Oracle 9, 10 and
MySQL 5.0 and we're well pleased with the progress.

However, since we have to plug in a number of fairly heavy duty back end
systems, some of the up and coming features of Gonzales would be excellent
for our needs. We have tried to parallel some of the testing we've been
doing on 3.0.2 with 4.0, but we've had to halt it as too many features don't
seem to work without tweaking or fixing the 4.0 code. This was all the way
from installation to trying to create simple content items. It seems to be
in a very "alpha" state at this point. Is there going to be a cut-off point
for a stable beta or release candidate?

We have invested a lot of time in testing 3.0.2, and are pretty much
convinced it will suit our needs as-is. Can we progress with 3.0.2 and then
migrate to 4.0? Regrettably, we need to shift resource onto our backend
systems now and we can no longer afford the time to keep trawling through
4.0 code just to get some things working , especially since the
documentation on it is still very sparse.

These are our environments and requirements, feel free to comment:

4 x 4GB Intel Core Duo blades running RedHat AS Linux behind Cisco ACE
Content Switch
Oracle 9 and 10g
MySQL 5
Coldfusion MX 7.0.2 Enterprise in Multiserver mode
Apache 2.0.52 Webserver

To all in Daemon and the forum, keep up the great work, I wish I had more
time to spend on Gonzales!

Regards,

Shrike71

PS. Has anybody developed a content versioning module? (keeping track of all
changes to content and containers) Drop a line on the thread.... we'd like
some advice before we do one ourselve
