I think you can do it by passing NavID in the URL with the object ID of the nav node you want hilighted. eg APPLICATION.navid.news if you have given the news nav node and alia of news

When I click on the [go] link within the teaser text of that container, it displays the page, but I also want the main navigation 'new' button to be highlighted.
