4,000 is just the "testing" number. I am only using the tree for dmNavigation and dmHTML. I was leery of putting that much content in the tree. I imagine a database corruption scenario nightmare.
Starting today something is driving the server out of RAM and crashing it and my ISP asked about the 4000 row query. I believe the server has 2GB but I will verify. DB is on a different server. A properly cached FarCry application will require a decent size of RAM (depending on the size of the application). And if you're running your DB on the same box as CF then that will be more RAM you'll need to account for. For my larger sites I like to stick with 4GB of RAM. The good news is RAM is inexpensive. I have heard of speed issues with people using MySQL and FarCry (or any app with thousands of records in MySQL)... but this was back in MySQL 4 (Haven't played much with MySQL 5 which I've heard good things about so far). As an aside: I recently launched a site where the client gave me a real crappy box (with a Celeron processor and only 512MB RAM). The site of course ran really slow. So I had them bump up the RAM and using Mat's new object broker technology and webskin caching features I was able to speed up the site so much that you'd truly believe they had a brand new webserver. And all with only a few lines of extra code! (Thanks Mat!)
