First thing is that all of your potential components could be content
types, especially if you are going to persist their data at some point
in the database.  They don't have to be but they could be.  Typically
the shopping cart is going to hold an array of products. These
products do not have to be of the same type, they just need to share
some common properties to simplify building your UI.

Secondly, Martin Orth is working on an Ecommerce plugin which may or
may not be of use; either to use or just to dissect.

Beyond telling you its certainly possible, and has been done many
times I'm not much help without launching into a much longer essay on
how it might be approached.
Try building a product content type and listing it. Get a feel for how
content types and things work.  Happy to give advice as long as its
small sound bytes that I can slip in between work ;)
