First thing is that all of your potential components could be content types, especially if you are going to persist their data at some point in the database. They don't have to be but they could be. Typically the shopping cart is going to hold an array of products. These products do not have to be of the same type, they just need to share some common properties to simplify building your UI. Beyond telling you its certainly possible, and has been done many times I'm not much help without launching into a much longer essay on how it might be approached. Try building a product content type and listing it. Get a feel for how content types and things work.
