In the Farcry Developer Training course PDF it documents a way to manually add a News navigation node to the breadcrumbs (page 64). Looking at the breadcrumb.cfc file it does not appear that the attributes used (i.e. parentnode) actually exist in this custom tag. Even looking at the bleeding edge version of the cfc in svn doesn't seem like it would address the problem.
