This is a great question, Jake! We're getting ready to do the same thing - we've got the dev site (FC) pretty locked down now but are going to be trying to figure out how to tie into the existing database (non-FC) and whether or not to just use the existing database and create views (tho we have been having problems with the views for some reason) or create another layer where data is collected from the existing db and then inserted into the FC db.
