Can you confirm that this is any content item at all? ie. can you create a content item with next to no, content? Can you edit content for a content item that has no wizard? eg. a Navigation Folder. Perhaps its a CF installation issue? Can you create a simple template that creates and unwraps a WDDX packet by itself, ie. separate from FarCry framework? The error you're reporting is very likely a truncated WDDX packet.
