As a follow up question, is there another way to deploy rules or types except through the (old) interface or the (flex) interface? I can't get either one to work (known flex issue, don't know why the other won't), and while I can get the types to deploy by clicking "deploy" through a custom admin menu, I can't do the same with the rule. Thus, I can't use the custom type/rule combo because I can't access the rule to display it!
I wouldn't mind creating the table myself, but with the glory of abstracting from the database, I don't know what the headings or variable types should be for the table!
