Hmm... the component that builds the model from the content type component should die in a fire. It's on our most wanted list with respect to re-factoring. I would persevere with the standard Types interface (ie. the non-flex one). What is the error you are getting? If its a timeout, increase the server timeout till you get the error. Perhaps we can fix that.
