I am hoping some of you on the list can help me figure out how to
improve FC5 performance issues. I have never had to perform
significant performance investigation on a CF app, but it looks like I
need to on this.

I am running FC 5.1.1 /CF 8 on a VMware powered Windows 2003 server
with dual cpus and 2G RAM, with antother VM Ware windows 2k3 MSSQL 2K5
(2gb+Duals). These machines are located on site, and the FC work is
being done on the local network. FC authentication is AD based and
working fine.

IIS and the SQL server seem to be performing reasonably well for some
very light weight apps runnign on those machines, but FC is NOT
performing well from the admin perspective. Site tree load times are
unbearably slow, you pretty much have to load the entire tree in the
morning and come back 30 minutes later if you intend to do any work
from the webtop. The "Tray" view of the site is also unbearabley slow
most of the time. the DUAL cpus on the SQL server get pegged whenever
you are trying to admin the site..

There must be something I can do to root out the cause and improve the
performance. My "publishers" (two highlevel marketing dept reasonably
sophisticated users) are getting very frustrated and muttering things
like "Sharepoint" and "Frontpage" and other horrible things. They
really want to off load work to "Contributors" but there is no way
with the current performance of the webtop, I can start training them.

help.

Where do I start looking?

Is there anyway to bring back some sort of permissions cache for
higher level users.. FC4.x was generally super speedy.
