It should delete the primary node, its children and then its children's 
children.. etc until all are gone.  Its possible
 that some auxiliary references like FU's are not being cleaned up (we'd 
consider that a bug).

The only things I can think of are:
a) its in the TRASH branch; and needs to be deleted by someone with the right 
privileges
b) the delete failed to complete for some reason and the content still exists 
but was orphaned from the tree.  There is a utility in the ADMIN area that 
allows you to reattach orphaned nodes -- and then attempt the delete again.
