Great site! :) I like the subtle background pattern and the bottom borders on the nav tabs.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I missed this in your post until Brendan replied.

The base template is (and validates up to) XHTML1.1 more as a demonstration than recommendation. The great thing about this is that you can specify any doctype between HTML4.01 and XHTML1.1, suitable for your content of course.

You make a good point about HTML4.01 perhaps being more appropriate, though when the next version of soEditor is released (can't be that far away now) there shouldn't be any issues.
