I didn't know it was necessary to install this in order to output a custom type from a rule.
It isn't. You must have set the fu plugin to true in your config, therefore everywhere you use the buildLink tag it interacts with the fu object. You can set your plugin config by logging into farcry, clicking the admin tab, then the config link and finally the plugins link. Set fu to no if you don't have Spike's classes installed.
