Short version: can it be done?
No reason we can think of -- and we'd give it a go if we had time to try. If you manage it would be great opportunity to spread more FarCry cheer. Would be very interested to know what version of BD it requires.
Long Version: I just tried installing FarCry 2.1.1 on WinXP running BlueDragon 6.1beta3, but I hit a snag because the installer depends on some undocumented features in CFMX (namely access to Coldfusion.ServiceFactory) - is this the only place that these undoc's are used and can the automated installed (cool as it is...) be avoided and FarCry installed manually?
You can install FarCry manually. The installer simply sets up the datasource, populates the database and copies across a sample site from the farcry_aura template. Just get a working FarCry database, manually configure the datasource, adjust ../config/_serverspecificvars.cfm as required, and configure your webserver.
From memory, I think the service factory call is to simply set up the datasource, and possibly the /farcry CFMapping.
From some tests I've done, BlueDragon (now) supports all the most commonly used features of CFMX such as CFC's and the like, so there is no _real_ reason for it to fail - or is there?
Kudos on the great work by the way!
Thanks. Spread the word!
PS: if this can work, my next project is to get it working on the Mac OSX version :)
Well MacOSX definitely works with FarCry for CFMX. The only issue is Verity free text search (Lucene appears to be an option here but so far no one's been motivated enough to add support). Also you'll find the HEAD of the code base has a bunch of modifications for better Safari compatability in the administrator -- should see these coming through in v2.2 due out in May.
