My final solution was to mimic importCSS and query for images that have the same objectID of the node they are on. It's disturbing for a couple reasons: 1) I'm dropping files into farcry_core/tags/webskin; 2) I'm not used to mixing model with view, and that's what seems to be going on in importCSS.
Should I be adding files to the farcry_core directories? I suppose my own skins should go in my site's folder. Regardless, doing it this way allows you to use a skin tag to output the images dynamically.
