So as it turns out what I want to do is extend dmNews rather than create
a totally custom type...Or are they one and the same.

So my first line should by this?

<cfcomponent extends="farcry.farcry_core.packages.types.dmNews"
displayname="Articles" hint="Article Directory" bschedule="1">

BTW...what does the bschedule="1" mean...in the tutorial its
bcustomType="1". Can't find a reference to this in the API but I might
just be looking in the wrong place.

So if I'm extending dmnews then all of the properties already called by
my type (abArticles) through inheritance because I'm just extending
dmnews, right, or do I need to define them again in my abArticles.cfc?

your best friend will be &debug=1

the best thing about programming is that you can crash the application
and nobody gets hurt. Follow the debugger - what is the worst that can
happen?

disclaimer: you are working in a development environment and all your
code and database is backed up :-)
