If, like me you detest Verity intergration within ColdFusion (not the product itself - I think it is good but the costs are just too large for enterprise level applications) - would anyone be interested if I embarked on intergrating Lucene into FarCry as an alternative to Verity?

The majority of clients find that 250k documents is enough to tie them over with Verity. Also Lucene is not as feature complete as Verity. However, that said I'd love to see a Lucene implementation for FarCry -- its always good to have options.

I am thinking about doing this for a development and thought why not built it into the vanilla install! Would anyone be interested in this or should I just keep it totally seperate from the base install?

Best to start this as a "custom admin" project. You need some sort of search maintenance area. The actually search results page itself is simply an included object.

I'd recommend taking a look at the Macromedia DRK work that was done to provide a Lucene interface to CF to get started. Bear in mind that anything to be contributed to FarCry opensource needs to be intellectual property that can be freely distributed.

Hope that helps,
