Hi, would it be possible for XDosemu to create a new font on
the fly and announce it to the X font server? I mean, vga.pcf
is designed to look like the 8x16 ROM font, but how about having
8x8, 8x14 and USER fonts as well?

I am not sure, but completely emulating fonts and effectively
running XDosemu in graphics-only mode to simulate arbitrary-
charset-text-mode without the help of X will probably run slwer?
However, graphics mode also is computationally heavy (if X and
DOS use different color depths and palettes) but still fast, so
after all, why not give it a try and have XDosemu "pixel together"
its text mode looks from font and text data, instead of using the
X font rendering for that.

PS: I think running dosemu or even a font change helper as ROOT
in order to change fonts while running the text mode only version
of Dosemu on a real console is a BAT IDEA, I think. Maybe using
the fbdev grahpics capabilities of the text consoles of Linux
instead? Or am I getting things wrong here and THOSE are only
available inside XTERMs (e.g. the new w3c text mode web browser
displays graphics even in an xterm - I do not know if this is
related to what it would do on a "Ctrl-Alt-F1" type text console).

Eric
