I got suse 6.4 & 7.3; dont seemta. I downloaded dosemu, and the archive
tool seemed to unpack it in reasonably looking directories, but when I
pull up the apps from the start icon, it aint there. going to text mode
with ctrl-alt-F2 gets me an error msg that dosemu cannot be found. But
then, part of the reason I am here is because I have such back computer
kharma, and always havta tinker with glitches.

True, but windoz crashes so often you can repartition before the next
install.

I liked mandrake 7, although I never could get the video right on some,
and mandrake 9 install crashes with 'mkinitrd fail'.

I dont do windoz, so I never tried it, but I did see the COREL 2nd
edition had icons on the desktop for importing windoz stuff. and like
you suggested, you better have 128meg dram with Linux now.

Yeah, but all the newbie knows is that he's spozed to use a
bootdisk.img
file to boot the cdrom install. I downloaded several, none of which
worked, and only got suse running cause it recognized the scsi card
during the install. Nevertheless, I have seen a lotta progress in the
distro install scripting over the years. I'm more of a hot solder
hacker, always running into good deals on odd hardware, and then
tweaking to make it work.
With the continuing decline in prices, its reasonable to not partition
drives, but simply add drives with other operating systems to the
platform. I keep some dos drives on hand just to test hardware already
loaded with the tools. Why use dosemu when you can have Lilo give you
the real thing? But for those scared of cracking the case, it may be
the
only option. Only I aint had any luck making it work. But that may be
just me.
