As far as i'm aware you need a law degree to sit the ny bar exams ie you dont need any FE1s or to be qualified. If you want to sit the californian bar you have to be qualified. Even if you never intend to practice over there a lot of firms have offices in the states so it would be good to have, and you could always come back and sit the qualified lawyers conversion exam!
